Tuesday - "MYTH & HISTORY" Dion Archaeological Site & Mount Olympus

Embark on a unique journey where myth meets history and the breathtaking landscapes of Mount Olympus reveal their secrets. Begin with a visit to the ancient city and sanctuary of Dion, a place of profound religious importance dedicated to Zeus, king of the gods. Here, history and legend converge: the ancient Macedonians, including Alexander the Great, made sacrifices to the Olympians before their world-changing campaigns. Explore the archaeological site, where a large temple of Zeus, sanctuaries of Demeter and Isis, mosaic floors, ancient baths, and ruins tell the story of daily life in antiquity. Continue to the Dion Museum, home to statues, relics, and treasures that bear witness to centuries of devotion and myth. Next, ascend to the Stavros Viewpoint for panoramic vistas of Mount Olympus and its valleys — the perfect spot for capturing the majesty of Greece’s highest peak. Then, wander through the charming village of Litochoro, often called the “Gateway to Olympus,” where traditional architecture blends with vibrant local life. Take time to explore quaint shops, savor authentic Greek cuisine in tavernas, and feel the village’s living connection to the legends of the gods. For those seeking adventure, join an optional short hike through the Enipeas Gorge. This stunning natural wonder, with its dramatic rock formations, lush vegetation, and crystal-clear waters, is steeped in myth: the river god Enipeas was said to have courted a mortal woman here. Your day concludes with a perfect blend of history, mythology, culture, and natural beauty — an unforgettable journey into the heart of ancient Macedonia and the home of the Olympian gods.

💡 Tip: Don’t forget to ask your guide for local gastronomic recommendations to truly savor the flavors of the region!
